Not much chat on here this year about the comming season... I know we have some holes to fill on defense... I also know that the sophmores comming in are LOADED with talent! With the like of Tommy Morris, Gordon Palmer, Ray Acosta the list goes on and on! Now all we need to do is find some line backers and D-linemen hahahahahaha! Could be a down year for defense. And then again, maybe not?????? I think everyone is scared.......Even you MOJOBOAT and Believer!

I sure can't speak for everyone;but for me personally I was deflated after the last game; and it may take sometime to get that enthused again,that being
said I was sure proud of the 2007 team..and I love our mojo as much as ever.....

I have not been impressed with anything I have seen so far except the incomming soph squad. I think we should prepare for a down year. And that is pure
speculation!! But my speculations are usually one ring away from being a bullseye!

The talent is there. Is the mindset there? That will be the key. I don't know if this group, starting out, would be capable of knocking off a state power
by 27 points in Week 2. I have all confidence that they can grow to be a team like that though. I think the offense will look a little different but will be
just as explosive. Defensively I think the secondary can be very very good. D line won't be batting down as many balls at the LOS but we have some quick,
very strong kids there so they should get a push. I think linebackers can be solid, but haven't seen anyone who reminds me of Mikey or Pup in the
headhunting department. Yet. :D

Yea Boat. I called the ET game before we even played it. I thought that I had cursed the MOJO at first and then I realized, kids just are not the same anymore.
I mean just look at myspace... You know I can think of a handfull of kids in 07 that really wanted to go to state.. The rest?? I have to wonder if they even
cared. I dont mean that in a bad way. The ones I thought really wanted it were the likes of 45,25,14,18,38 and a few more. I just have to wonder if football is
as important to these kids as it was back in the good ole days. I dont think so.. If it happened in odessa, you would think that it would happen all over (ET
SLC KATY ECT.ECT.) so I dont know. Maybe because the last time I saw any real fire was in 88-91. Of course I was a little kid then and those men in black were
my heros and in my mind, they did no wrong. I guess I am sinning by questioning the MOJO, but Im not 100 percent convinced that MOJO is back. I guess my next
question is, will it ever be? Now all you bleeding hearts dont get me wrong, I think we can compete and even be good! I just believe that these kids think that
the third round is their state championship game. How do the coaches change that mentality? You know the other day I had two bee hives removed because I had
over 160,000 africanized bees in them and it was a ticking time bomb. The bee guy said that the reason why the African bee was so harmful is because it works
so much harder than the european. It gets up earlier than the european, goes to bed later. Everything it does, it does twice as hard and twice as efficient. I
guess it is kinda like Permian and The current state powers.. They will both sting you, but the harder worker will KILL YOU!

1313 I Agree...also driving the kids up the same day for the last two third round games didn't help either...I guess they spent all the money paying back
favors in good ol brownwood for a first round game...Dare we question the new head coach he has been supurb and I apreciate what he has done, however he has a
little room to go also......Dare I say???????????

The kids of today are as capable as those of the 60s, 70s, 80's and 90,s yet the product is not there. I blame it on director. If you think the Watts era

I don't know what the future holds, but am an eternal optimist. That being said, I think it takes time to build anything great... truly great. To expect
Allman to undo AND rebuild to State Championship caliber by his third year is just not reasonable.... even for Permian.
That being said, I agree with you 1313 that there were some focus and faith issues with a lot of players on this 07 team. There were a handful that really, truly, honest to God never doubted they would win state. But without a majority of the players having that mentality and truly believing the same thing - it wasn't enough. No one will ever convince me different that if this group had come together under Allman a few years later, they would have blown the doors off of everyone in the state. Now, back to reality... ;) I think we are still a couple of years out from making a serious run at the big dance. I have an adopted incoming Soph from Nimitz. I told him, and I am dead serious, he will see a state game by the time he's a senior. I won't predict any championships, but I do think Allman will have them in San Antonio in three years. That is if nothing catastrophic happens with our coaches, etc... He's made amazing progress and has learned what is working and what isn't. Every mistake they have made,.... has made the team better. I have to think that will continue to be the trend.

I agree; I wasn't questioning his coaching or intangibles.....However I do believe the boys would be more spry, if we didn't have to travel 3
hrs. the same day for a 1:00 playoff game exspecially against a big physical team like Trinity...

Yep 2201, we have talked about that in depth haven't we? haha!
But I think that type of issue may be one of the learning experiences I was referring to. If the mentality and dedication starts running stronger and deeper within the team, those types of things won't be as critical. Allman and his coaches have introduced and sewn the seeds of the right Mojo mentality. Each "season" we have seen some of the fruits - and I feel those will bare more and more fruit every year. We may not see another huge leap forward like we did for 06 when we made several steps forward (Lee, OHS, first playoff in forever) or 07 (perfect regular season, district bell) - but I don't see us going backward. I don't think we will have a down year, though we MAY experience what seems like a plateau. But that's the great thing about this great sport. High school kids have always and will always have the ability to shock and amaze us. ;) |

One short word. Before you blame Coach Allman about the trip plans last season, you would be wise to check what the ECISD administration allowed him to do.
These are not the old days when the Permian coach pretty much got carte blanche in post season travel plans. ECISD administration constraints on team travel,
especially Permian Football team travel, is a factor in what they do and will continue to remain that way during this administration.

Also remember, on the game with Mansfield in Brownwood, there were no other places to play that game unless we flipped for home and home, and as I recall
Mansfield did not want to do that. Abilene was the obvious choice for a neutral site, but Shotwell was already booked up.

Well what ever the reason for the travel situations it hurts the kids, I knew there may be a leadership problem;;;it's even worse when it comes from the
very top ..(I had a hunch it did) the kids and coaches may have to overcome there leaders....two years in a row playing powerhouses in eary games ,traveling
the same day seemed weird to me....now I know ///can't the booster club or private individuals pick up some tabs.....
